Priority Assessment

Many years ago I was watching a Christian parody about how a Christian should not witness. The “Christian” in the video started talking to an unbeliever and ended the conversation by telling the guy to “read your Bible!” and then whacks the guy with the Bible that was in his hand. The quote popped into my head last night as I was about to read the Bible before bed. I had gone to bed at about 9:50 with every intention of spending a while in the Word, but somehow I kept getting sidetracked as my mind (i.e. flesh) kept finding me other things to read/think about until I glanced at the clock only to find that it was 10:40. Where had the time gone? Surely I hadn’t wasted that much time!? And immediately (as if on cue) my mind started coming up with excuses as to why I shouldn’t read the Bible now because “it was too late”; “if you read it now you won’t be rested in the morning”; “you can always read it tomorrow, after all.” But you know, I’ve gone along with it before, and it never

This Thanksgiving I'm Thankful For....

“What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?” “Family.” “Jesus.” “Friends.” “Home.” Last Wednesday was the last Bible study before Thanksgiving. When we first started teaching the class 3+ years ago, it was like pulling teeth to get the kids to pay attention and not be disruptive. After several months, I was ready to quit after several weeks where the boys were being especially rude and disruptive (it seemed like they were doing it out of spite for us). We didn’t, of course, though it was very tempting. The lady that had taught the class before us used to go home every week crying, and I could definitely understand why. After those weeks of “trials”, the kids started getting better (slowly) and we started building relationships with them. The surprising thing was that the boys that were originally the “trouble-makers”, became the best students. After they found out that we loved them and cared about their life, they started paying attention, asking questions, and genuinely wanting to

New & Old Law

This is something that my brother, Robert, just wrote in regards to the Old Covenant vs New Covenant, self-defense, and where our real battle is. Please, take the time to read all the way through it, even though it is long. It is mainly scripture. Following Him, Sara Most Christians fail to understand the difference between the New Testament Covenant and the Old Testament Covenant, which has led to division and new denominations.  Most people just decide, based on common sense, what parts of the Old Testament they will follow.  Let's just look at Scripture. "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.  Matthew 5:17-18 We see very clearly here that the Law is going to be around until "heaven and earth pass away".  Question, why would it only stay until that time

To Obey is Better Than Sacrifice

I love Proverbs. There are so many wonderful and insightful verses. I came across this one last night as I was looking for another verse... To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. Proverbs 22:3 It immediately reminded me of 1 Samuel 15 where King Saul spared King Agag and saved the “fat of the land” against God’s direct orders to completely annihilate the Amalekites. Because of it, God rejected Saul as King and we all know the familiar verse that Samuel told Saul, “ Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. ” (1 Sam. 15:22) Have you ever thought of how that verse affects your life? And I’m not talking about head -knowledge, I’m talking about heart -knowledge. We can memorize the entire Bible, but if it never means anything to us personally - if it never grips our innermost-being - it’s useless.
