Carnal Weapon's

This was written on August 27th, 2011.

Recently, I have become very aware of how much people rely on their weapons in lieu of God, and it has been rather startling. I have been shocked to see Christian families voting for the right to own weapons. The reason? To protect themselves and their family. If an intruder comes to steal, or kill them, they want to have a weapon to protect themselves, simply because they don't want to die. So I have to ask, what is so terrible about being a believer and dying? Death means eternity with God! No more strife, anger, jealousy, sin; we would be in the presence of the Almighty God for every and ever! So why are we scared of death? Because we don't trust God. If we were trusting God for everything and putting our family members in His hand, we wouldn't be worried about them. There is nothing to do, or to go through that God does not see.

Isaiah 43:2
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.

Jeremiah 23:24
Can anyone hide himself in secret places, So I shall not see him?” says the LORD; “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the LORD.

Provers 21:1
The Kings heart is in the hand of the LORD, like rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.

God has the ultimate plan for our life, and maybe it does mean dying at a young age, or before you think you've done everything that you think that you should have. But we must always keep HIM first. He's not our Co-pilot; He is our pilot, and we're just here for the ride!

Provers 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

This also brings up another question: Do you think of your life as being more valuable than the intruder?

Isaiah 64:6
But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

We don't deserve anything, especially not life. Yet as believers, we have been bought for a price (1st Corinthians 6:20) by the spotless lamb of God, who died a horrifying death on the cross for our sins, so that we could be reconciled to God. We know where we are going when we die because of the price that Jesus paid. But the intruder that has come to steal, kill etc, does he know God? Most likely not. Yet you would rather kill him and send him to an eternity of damnation so you could live on sinful "earth", rather than tell him about Christ and His life and give your own life in place of his.

Matthew 5:43-49
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?"

John 13:15
"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends."

And if he wants to kill you, let him kill you! Maybe that is the way that he will be brought to Christ; by your witness of trust in Jesus and that you are not afraid of death. Un-believers are very scared of death. And the fact that you have peace and trust in where you are going, will be a witness. Why do you think people in persecuted countries continue to come to the Lord in the face of certain death? Because they have seen the trust that the believers have even to the death and their witness for the Lord. Oh, that our witness was as strong!

Maybe you say, "I have to protect my family," when the truth is, you can't do anything by yourself. If it wasn't for God, you wouldn't even be alive. This is a lie from the enemy so that we are not resting on God and His promises and love. Because there is nothing you can do to keep your family alive; absolutely nothing. You cannot give them breath, or make their heart beat every second. They could leave and get into a fatal car accident, or simply slip on the porch and hit their head on the wood railing and die. You are powerless over the safety of your family. And the sooner you come to realize this, the better it is. It will give you peace because you're not having to rest on your own wisdom, and instead relying on the perfect plan of God who created the heavens and the earth.

Job 40:9
Have you an arm like God? Or can you thunder with a voice like His?

Psalm 33:6-9
By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.

James 4:13-15
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.  Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”

Ephesians 6:12-13
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
